From Okinawa To Today.

Shuri-te & Naha-te

Okinawan karate developed through several regional schools, most notably the Shuri-te and Naha-te traditions — Shuri-te known for rapid, linear strikes and Naha-te for circular, breathing-focused power generation (ibuki). These two approaches would later become the biomechanical foundation of Shito-Ryu.

Kenwa Mabuni Founds Shito-Ryu

Kenwa Mabuni, who trained under masters of both Shuri-te and Naha-te, synthesized the two traditions into a single style: Shito-Ryu. The name honors his two principal teachers. Shito-Ryu became one of the four major styles of Japanese karate, prized for its comprehensive technical range — from linear striking to grappling and traditional kata.

Tani Sensei Founds Shukokai

In the years after the Second World War, Tani Sensei founded Shukokai — literally "way for all" — as a branch of Shito-Ryu. Shukokai refined Mabuni's system with an emphasis on scientific biomechanics: maximizing the speed and power of a strike through precise body mechanics rather than raw physical strength. This is the founding act the Shitoryu Shukokai Union traces its authority back to.

A Lineage Spreads

Shukokai spread through Japan and, over the following decades, internationally, carried forward by successive generations of instructors trained directly in Tani Sensei's method. Today's Shitoryu Shukokai Union current master, Masahito Yashu — biography pending, continues that direct line of instruction.

The Lineage Reaches Spartan Master's Academy

The specific history of how this lineage reached Shihan Nagasa Karthik and Spartan Master's Academy — training dates, certifying instructors, and the academy's own founding year — is pending from the client.

What's confirmed today: Karthik teaches the curriculum under the Shitoryu Shukokai Union standard, at a network that now spans 40+ dojos across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
